Keep Getting Up

Often the road to success is filled with little failures ( or big ones ). Getting up after you fail is one key to reaching the goals you set for yourself.

You've probably heard about the many failed attempts Thomas Edison had on his way to developing the light bulb. The best basketball players miss a bunch of shots. They keep trying. They learn and keep moving.

You can achieve great success when you learn from your failures and Keep getting up!

The Choice

Greatness is a choice. You get to choose the actions - the steps that will help you achieve great treasures.

We may make these times better, if you set your course and take action.

"Industry need not wish, and he that lives upon hope will die fasting. There are no gains without pains; then help hands, for I have no lands;" or if I have, they are smartly taxed. "He that hath a trade, hath an estate; and he that hath a calling, hath an office of profit and honour," as Poor Richard says; but then the trade must be worked at, and the calling well followed, or neither the estate nor the office will enable us to pay our taxes. If we work smart - and hard, we shall never starve; for "at the working man's house hunger looks in, but dares not enter." Nor will the bailiff or the constable enter, for "industry pays debts, while despair increases them." What, though you have found no treasure, nor has any rich relation left you a legacy.

"Diligence is the mother of good luck, and God gives all things to industry. Then plow deep, while sluggards sleep, and you shall have corn to sell and to keep."
Benjamin Franklin

Attitude Wins

Your attitude really can make a difference. Think about the most successful people you know. Are they more often positive and upbeat? How often do you hear them complain or whine about the negative? Do you find these successful people to be more positive, enthusiastic, energetic and happy? Do they most often see the good in others?

Every day people are bombarded by negative news. Crime, politics, war and a host of bad news fill the airways. Successful people minimize their exposure to all this bad news and instead choose to fill their minds with positive ideas from books and magazines. They tend to look upon problems as opportunities waiting to be uncovered.

Successful people command their thoughts and emotions. As soon as bad thoughts intrude, they cast out anything that challenges their ability to succeed at the task at hand. They do not dwell on negative notions. Their self-talk is positive and not overly critical. They replace bad thoughts with good ones.

Evaluate Where You Are

P.T. Barnum was a super successful - and wealthy - businessman. His legendary circus lives on today! Mr Barnum's success was no fluke. He persevered at a number of lofty pursuits - and was quite good at making money!

Work at it, if necessary, early and late, in season and out of season, not leaving a stone unturned, and never deferring for a single hour that which can be done just as well now. The old proverb is full of truth and meaning, "Whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well." Many a man acquires a fortune by doing his business thoroughly, while his neighbor remains poor for life, because he only half does it. Ambition, energy, industry, perseverance, are indispensable requisites for success in business.

Exercise caution in making your plans, but be bold in carrying them out. A man who is all caution, will never dare to take hold and be successful; and a man who is all boldness, is merely reckless, and must eventually fail. A man may go on "'change" and make fifty, or one hundred thousand dollars in speculating in stocks, at a single operation. But if he has simple boldness without caution, it is mere chance, and what he gains to-day he will lose to-morrow. You must have both the caution and the boldness, to insure success.

There is no such thing in the world as luck. There never was a man who could go out in the morning and find a purse full of gold in the street to-day, and another to-morrow, and so on, day after day: He may do so once in his life; but so far as mere luck is concerned, he is as liable to lose it as to find it. "Like causes produce like effects." If a man adopts the proper methods to be successful, "luck" will not prevent him.
